I compiled a list of notable Bay Area peaks and high points after I couldn’t find a complete list on the internet. The list is organized by mountain range. Hope this is useful or interesting!

Diablo Range (extends south out of the Bay Area):

  • San Benito Mountain: 5,241 ft (not Bay Area, but included since it is the highest point in the range)
  • Copernicus Peak (Mt. Hamilton): 4,360 ft
  • Mount Isabel: 4,230 ft
  • Black Mountain: 3,951 ft
  • Mount Diablo: 3,849 ft
  • Discovery Peak: 3,841 ft
  • Rose Peak: 3,817 ft
  • Mount Stakes: 3,804 ft
  • Mount Allison: 2,658 ft
  • Monument Peak: 2,594 ft
  • Mission Peak: 2,517 ft
  • Sunol Peak: 2,191 ft

Berkeley Hills:

  • Rocky Ridge: 2,024 ft
  • Vollmer Peak: 1,905 ft
  • Las Trampas Peak: 1,827 ft
  • Round Top: 1,761 ft
  • Grizzly Peak: 1,754 ft
  • Redwood Peak: 1,619 ft

Santa Cruz Mountains:

  • Loma Prieta Peak: 3,786 ft
  • Mount Umunhum: 3,486 ft
  • Mount Bielawski: 3,231 ft
  • El Sombroso: 2,999 ft
  • Black Mountain: 2,800 ft
  • Ben Lomond Mountain: 2,630 ft
  • Borel Hill: 2,572 ft
  • Eagle Rock: 2,488 ft
  • Sierra Morena: 2,417 ft
  • Kings Mountain: 2,080 ft
  • North Peak (Montara Mountain): 1,898 ft

Mayacmas Mountains:

  • Cobb Mountain: 4,724 ft
  • Mount Saint Helena: 4,343 ft
  • The Palisades: 2,927 ft
  • Hood Mountain: 2,730 ft

Vaca Mountains:

  • Mount Vaca: 2,819 ft

Sonoma Mountains:

  • Sonoma Mountain: 2,287 ft

Marin Hills:

  • Mount Tamalpais: 2,571 ft
  • Mount Wittenberg: 1,407 ft

    Boardman Mountain is almost as tall as Diablo and is in the area.

    I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on which would be considered the key peaks of the area. Mission Peak, Mt Diablo, Mt Tam come to mind.
