This morning I ran the 20 Mile “Run on the Sly” trail race in Pollock Pines, CA. Pollock Pines is located along Highway 50 on the way to South Lake Tahoe. The course was awesome with stellar single track around Jenkinson Lake and just enough hills to make it challenging. Shady running in thick pine forest was great for keeping the temperatures tolerable on an otherwise hot day. I was the first finisher in the 20 mile race, coming in at 2:22.45 (the record is 2:16 set in ’03, but I believe that was on a slightly different course). Either way, the running was fantastic in a gorgeous setting. The race organization was also superb with excellent course marking and great post-race food.
Here is a photo I found of Jenkinson Lake. About 10 miles of the race consisted of running around this lake on sweet single track.
