Lyell/Maclure & Conness/North Peak

This past weekend I did two day climbs in the high Sierra near Tioga Pass in Yosemite National Park. Both were really sweet. Check out the trip reports on

Mount Lyell/Mount Maclure (Saturday): I did this 30 mile trip in 9 hours, 55 minutes (I was hoping to break 10 hours). Mount Lyell is the highest point in Yosemite National Park and Lyell Glacier is the largest glacier in the park and second largest in the high Sierra.

North Peak

Mount Conness/North Peak (Sunday): We drove to Saddlebag Lake after Lyell/Maclure where we car camped. The Northwest Ridge of North Peak was really fun with some great rock scrambling on 3rd and 4th class rock and the Lyell Glacier was equally fun with steep snow and a bergschrund problem. The Conness/North Peak double took 6 hours and 45 minutes.

  1. Hi,

I am a producer for the PBS TV show CALIFORNIA’S GOLD hosted by Huell Howser. We are just finishing up a show on Conness Glacier and we need a few extra photos. I found some of yours via Google and wondered if we could use them in our show, and if you have any others of the glacier you might be able to email me.
